  Eugene Linden

Eugene Linden will present his new book, The Winds of Change: Climate, Weather, and the Destruction of Civilizations for the CLSC program. Mr. Linden writes about science, technology, the environment, and humanity’s relationship with nature. He is the author of seven books including The Future in Plain Sight: The Rise of the “True Believers” and Other Clues to the Coming Instability and The Parrot’s Lament: And Other True Tales of Animal Intrigue, Intelligence, and Ingenuity. He has also written for TIME Magazine for many years since joining the magazine in 1987 with the responsibility to conceive of, report, and write major stories on the environment and science. Two of his major articles for TIME include articles on climate change (“Artic Meltdown”) and a new threat to the Amazon rain forest (“The Amazon Tinderbox”), both published in 2000 as international cover stories. He also wrote the central story for TIME’s first global special issue, “How To Save the Earth” in 2000.

Mr. Linden has contributed articles to The New York Times, Foreign Affairs, National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Fortune, and Slate. He has won numerous journalistic awards, including the American Geophysical Union’s Walter Sullivan Award for Excellence in Science Journalism and an Oversees Press Club Citation for Excellence. He was also named as one of four recipients of the first Poynter Fellowship at Yale University in 2001 in honor of his work in environmental journalism.
