Kitty Ferguson's interest in astronomy and physics date from her childhood in Texas, in a family that valued science, classical music, and religious faith. After graduating from the Juilliard School and a twenty-year career as a professional musician, Ferguson, with her husband and three children, spent a year in England, where her husband was a Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University. There, Ferguson followed up her early passion for science by auditing graduate lectures and seminars. After her return to the United States, Ferguson wrote a best-selling biography entitled Stephen Hawking: Quest for a Theory of Everything. She met the subject during her time in Cambridge.
