David A. Lipschitz, M.D., Ph.D., is Chair of the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics and Director of the Center on Aging at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He received an M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Witwaterstrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He immigrated to the United States in 1972 and completed a fellowship in Hematology at the University of Washington in Seattle and the Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, New York. After three years as a faculty member in the Division of Hematology at the University of Kansas, he joined UAMS as the Director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology in 1978. At that time, he began developing research interests in hematological and nutritional aspects of the aging process.
He is published widely in this field and is a recognized authority on the hematological and nutritional problems of older people. In 1985, Dr. Lipschitz assumed the position of Director of the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital, and in 1988 became Director of the Division on Aging in the Department of Medicine. . . . short bio
