Robert Kagan is senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. The author of his most recent book, Of Paradise and Power (Knopf, 2003), Kagan also writes a monthly column on world affairs for The Washington Post, and is a Contributing Editor at both the Weekly Standard and the new Republic. He served in the State Department from 1984-1988 and a member of the Policy Planning Staff, as a principal speechwriter for Secretary of State George P. Shultz, and as Deputy for Policy in the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs. Education: B.S., Yale University; M.P.P., John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
