Gustav Niebuhr is an associate professor in religion and the media in the department of religion at Syracuse University With a 20-year career in journalism, he is one of the country’s leading writers on American religion, having served as a national correspondent for The New York Times and, prior to that, as a national staff writer for the Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and the Atlanta Journal/Constitution. A widely published author, Niebuhr also does occasional commentaries on religion for National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.” A visiting fellow and scholar in residence at Princeton University from 2001-2003, Niebuhr is currently working on a book about religious pluralism and interfaith relations in America. . . . short bio
